An invoice is a bill: the seller's bill for goods, or the transporter's bill for freight. A bilty is the transporter's receipt and contract for carrying the goods. The bilty proves the goods were taken for transport; the invoice asks for money. A truck often carries the goods invoice, the bilty and the e-way bill together.

Three documents are often mixed up. The goods invoice is raised by the seller to the buyer for the goods. The bilty (LR) is raised by the transporter to the consignor when it takes the goods. The freight invoice, also called the freight bill, is raised by the transporter to the party who pays for the transport. Each has a different issuer, a different purpose and, under GST, different rules.
The e-way bill ties them together: it is made from the goods invoice details and the vehicle number, and the transporter's LR number is entered as the transport document. The bilty never replaces an invoice, and a freight invoice never replaces a bilty.
