Loading Slip

Also searched as: loading slip meaning · gate pass transport · dispatch slip

Direct Definition

A loading slip is a slip given at the loading point that records what was put on a truck: party, goods, packages or weight, vehicle number, date and time, with the signature or stamp of the person who loaded. The bilty is usually filled from it.

Detailed Explanation & Statutory Rules

At a factory or godown the loading supervisor often gives the driver a slip when loading is complete. It may be called a loading slip, gate pass or dispatch slip. The details on it are what the broker or transporter copies into the bilty.

Keep it, because it is the earliest record of the quantity that left. If the consignee later says goods were short, the loading slip, the bilty and the weighbridge slip are compared. Check that the vehicle number, packages and party name on it match the bilty before the truck leaves.

Legal Reference / Act: Trade practice (not defined in law).

Practical Indian Freight Example

"The supervisor at a tile factory in Morbi gives the driver a slip: 600 boxes, vehicle GJ 36 X 4821, 07:40. The broker enters 600 boxes and the same vehicle number on the bilty. On arrival the consignee counts 596 boxes, and the slip is the first thing checked."
