A bilty, also called an LR or lorry receipt, is the consignment note a transporter issues when goods are handed over for road transport. It names the sender, receiver, truck, goods, weight, origin, destination and who pays GST. Issue one for every trip: it is the driver's and the consignee's proof of the load.

| Transporter name and address | Your firm name, address, phone and GSTIN. Print it once on the book or add it by hand. |
| LR / consignment no. | A unique serial number. Never repeat it; keep the numbers in running order. |
| Date | The date the document is made (for a bilty, the day the goods are handed over). |
| Consignor (sender) | Name, address and GSTIN of the party sending the goods. |
| Consignee (receiver) | Name, address and GSTIN of the party receiving the goods. |
| From (origin) | Place where the goods are loaded. |
| To (destination) | Place where the goods will be delivered. |
| Truck number | Registration number of the vehicle carrying the goods, e.g. MH12AB1234. |
| Driver name | Name of the driver on this trip. |
| Description of goods | What is loaded, in plain words (for example cement bags, steel coils). |
| Packages (nos.) | Number of bags, boxes or pieces. |
| Weight (kg / tonnes) | Actual or charged weight. Write the unit. |
| E-way bill no. | 12-digit number, if the consignment value needs one. Leave blank if not applicable. |
| Person liable to pay GST | Tick who pays GST on this freight: consignor, consignee or the transporter (GTA). |
| Payment terms | To Pay, Paid or TBB (to be billed). Says who settles the freight and when. |
| Freight (Rs) | Agreed transport charge for the trip. |
| Advance paid (Rs) | Amount already paid before or during the trip. |
| Balance (Rs) | Freight minus advance, still to be paid. |
| Consignor signature | The sender signs to confirm the goods handed over. |
| Driver signature | The driver signs to accept the goods and the document. |
| Authorised signatory | Owner or manager of the transport firm, with stamp. |
How to fill the bilty format

Download the bilty format as PDF and print it on A4, or open the Excel or Word file on your phone or computer.

Fill the top fields first: number, date, truck number and the parties. Use a pen on the printed copy or type into the file.

Under the CGST Rules (rule 54(3)) a goods transport agency's consignment note carries a serial number, date, consignor, consignee, truck number, goods details, origin, destination and the person liable to pay GST. This format has a box for each, so do not leave them blank.

What details must a bilty have for GST?
Rule 54(3) of the CGST Rules lists what a goods transport agency's consignment note carries: a serial number, the date, the consignor and consignee, the truck number, details of the goods, the origin and destination, and the person liable to pay GST. This format has a field for each.
Are bilty, LR and lorry receipt the same thing?
Yes. Bilty is the Hindi-belt word, LR (lorry receipt) is the English term and consignment note is the formal name. They all mean the document that travels with the goods.
